And good news! There are things you can do to work through trauma. A recent workshop framed resiliency into the 7 C's:
Confidence. It may not seem as if you can get through a difficult period, but focus on the challenges you overcame in your past. What thoughts, feelings and actions helped you?
Commitment. Once you are in the correct frame of mind, body and spirit, create an action plan to take that first step forward.
Connection (to Self). Assess the difference of what you want, and what you need.
Conviction. In the same way a recipe lists the ingredients first and then the directions, assess what you need and then start the plan. Every marathon starts with the first short step.
Caution/ mindfulness. Take a deep and honest look into yourself. Time after trauma can cause depression; sometimes people do not make the most honest decisions when in depression. Treat that first.
Compassion. Take time to love you and those around you. Form a support circle to assist you.
Creativity. Are there any options that you haven't thought of, or done in the past? A coach may be able to help you frame this.
And skills to develop, and expand upon, to not only begin healing, but maintain are:
Maintain a realistic awareness of self.
An ability to talk about what you are going through.
Demonstrate a consistent level of self-compassion.
Strive to be a helpful person.
Practice acceptance.
Learn to forgive.
Cultivate the believe that you can cope.
