Resiliency Breakdown

And good news! There are things you can do to work through trauma. A recent workshop framed resiliency into the 7 C's:

  • Confidence. It may not seem as if you can get through a difficult period, but focus on the challenges you overcame in your past. What thoughts, feelings and actions helped you?

  • Commitment. Once you are in the correct frame of mind, body and spirit, create an action plan to take that first step forward.

  • Connection (to Self). Assess the difference of what you want, and what you need.

  • Conviction. In the same way a recipe lists the ingredients first and then the directions, assess what you need and then start the plan. Every marathon starts with the first short step.

  • Caution/ mindfulness. Take a deep and honest look into yourself. Time after trauma can cause depression; sometimes people do not make the most honest decisions when in depression. Treat that first.

  • Compassion. Take time to love you and those around you. Form a support circle to assist you.

  • Creativity. Are there any options that you haven't thought of, or done in the past? A coach may be able to help you frame this.

And skills to develop, and expand upon, to not only begin healing, but maintain are:

  • Maintain a realistic awareness of self.

  • An ability to talk about what you are going through.

  • Demonstrate a consistent level of self-compassion.

  • Strive to be a helpful person.

  • Practice acceptance.

  • Learn to forgive.

  • Cultivate the believe that you can cope.
