My childhood was an enjoyable one set in a rural farm in Manitoba. A mixed farm with grain and livestock gave me an experience that I treasure to this day. But in a short timeframe, from when I was 14-17, I saw my mother pass away from fighting a two year battle with cancer, a house burn down, and a terrible hailstorm that wiped out our crops and pushed us further back into poverty. As horrible as that time was, there were snapshots of moments which resonate with me today, and provided some foundational resilience for my personal and private life.
